☆Power/Abilities☆
Powers and Abilities: Cloak of the Jack of all Trades: When Nicolas first began a mage he was given a cloak that could harness many different forms of magic. As time went on, he has acquired a great many abilities that he can switch between and has changed the cloak into an overcoat. The type of abilities he can depends on the color of the bands on his coat
Orange: When the bands are orange Nicolas can manipulate fire, create large fire blasts (40 foot, can go up to 10,000 kelvin, explodes on impact in about a ten foot radius), can become fire himself, and absorb outside sources of fire.
Blue: When the bands are blue Nicolas can breathe underwater, control water, create heavy torrents of water (As strong as a fire hose, 30 foot), and blend in with the water. Further, the bands can turn a lighter shade of blue, allowing him to manipulate ice, be immune to extreme cold weather, shoot out magically charged ice shards (As strong as a pistol, 120 foot range), and create ice armor (Strong against base physical weaponry, bats, crowbars, blades, etc.).
Red: When the bands are red Nicolas is able to conjure forth even more powerful arcane magic. He can fire off strong bursts of arcane energy (Can completely blast through steel, range of 50 feet), perform greater telekinesis (Can lift a bus), and create arcane barriers (Can block missile fire). He can use his telekinesis to make himself levitate.
Purple: When the bands are purple Nicolas is able to perform necromancy. He can create strong skeletal armor (Bullets can't pierce), raise up to four undead servants, can drain the life from targets he touches, and create clouds of poison (25 foot cone, 15 foot cloud).
Green: When the bands are green Nicolas is able to hover a good ten or so feet off the ground, manipulate the wind, create powerful, slicing gales of wind (100 foot range, can slice iron), and create a wall of wind to block projectiles (bullets). The green cloak can develop green and yellow bands around the sleeves and midsection, allowing him to fire off powerful blasts of lightning (80 foot, as strong as lightning) and coat himself in electric armor.
Brown: When the bands are brown Nicolas can control the earth and stone (this includes roads and cement), levitate boulders and propel them forward, and his skin becomes harder and more resistant to physical attacks.
Black: When the bands are black Nicolas can control the shadows and light, able to cast strong shadowy blasts (80 foot range, strong against flesh, not against armor and metal), create blinding rays of light, a cloud of darkness, and shimmering shields (can block a blast from a grenade), and can manipulate colors.
White: When the bands are white Nicolas gains control over nature. He can accelerate plant growth, control how it grows, increase the strength of plants, and talk with animals.
Grey: When the bands are grey Nicolas has weak arcane abilities, and the cloak itself becomes more durable, able to help dampen physical blows. In terms of the arcane abilities he can perform telekinesis on small objects like paper, pencils, a pistol, bullets, cutlery, and so forth, and send out a small blast of arcane energy, about the strength of a slingshot bolt (40 foot range).
Age: Nicolas, after a ritual he went through in his younger years, prevented him from aging. He is constantly the same age and doesn’t seem to have any of the drawbacks of an old person. Cigarettes also don’t seem to have much of an effect on him.
Weaknesses: Mana: Like most other casters Nicolas has a source of mana which he must draw upon to be able to use magic. There is a limit to how much he can cast, and he needs time to recharge his mana after it has been used. Drinking coffee helps him recharge his mana faster.
Regents and Weaknesses: To be able to switch the color of his bands he needs certain regents to cast them. Further, each band has its own set of weaknesses that go along with it.
Orange: In order to be able to turn his bands orange he needs to have a source of fire nearby to drain. A lighter will do, though after using it as a regent there will be no more oil to burn. As expect, his fire magic has a weakness to water based attacks and environments. If he himself is wet, then his fire spells will be weakened.
Blue: In order to be able to turn his bands blue he needs to have two liters of water, to turn them light blue he needs to either be in a cold environment or have three liters of ice. His water magic makes him more suspectable to electricity-based attacks, a taser could knock him out. For his ice, as expected, he is weak to fire based attacks and his ice magic will come out much weaker if he is in extreme heats.
Red: In order to be able to turn his bands red he needs to expend three resources of his other bands (Example: two liters of water, the fire and oil from a lighter, and bouquet of flowers). He has a hard time casting arcane magic in loud environments, the vibrations disturbing his focus.
Purple: In order to be able to turn his bands purple he needs six bones from any creature. His necromancy is weak to holy symbols of any major and long-lasting religion. His undead minions are easily put down with fire.
Green: In order to be able to turn his bands green he needs to maintain controlled breathing for twenty seconds, which can be hard to do when in conflict. In order to turn his bands yellow and green he needs to absorb energy from a good source, a car battery would do. Both his wind and electricity powers seem to have a hard time damaging and piercing stone.
Brown: In order to be able to turn his bands brown he needs to have a rock(s) about the size of his palm. His stone magic seems to break easily against torrenting waters, frigid cold, and when he is using earth magic he is much slower in terms of his movements.
Black: In order to be able to turn his bands black he needs to find a source of light, like a lightbulb, put his hand on it and keep his eyes closed for ten seconds. He has trouble casting light-based magic in environments with flashing lights or a vast amount of changing colors.
White: In order to be able to turn his bands white he needs to have a small collection of natural items, like a bouquet of flowers. As expected, his nature magic is weak to fire based attacks.
Grey: Grey does not require any form of regent and can be switched to this state at any point and time.
Skills and Talents: Nicolas is very observant, able to hone in on the smallest of details. He knows how to use a firearm and he is a pretty good driver. He is rather quiet and good at sneaking into places as well, having some skills in lockpicking to boot, and some parkour skills.
Equipment: A four door ford which has a similar backseat to that of a cop car, a lighter, a satchel, a notepad and pen, a flashlight, a detective license, lockpicks, an old revolver and some ammo for it, and a pocket watch without gears.
☆History☆
Current residence: New York City
Birthplace: Camelot
Memorable Figures: Merlin, Houdini, Circe, Cassandra, and Rider.
General History: Nicolas was born years ago to the fabled city of Camelot. Having a vast amount of mana he caught the eye of the advisor of King Arthur, Merlin. Nicolas became the great wizard’s apprentice, studying magic and how to become an asset to the Kingdom. Upon passing a great test given to him by King Arthur himself, Nicolas was granted his own mage robe which would help channel his abilities.
However, as the legend went, Camelot fell and Nicolas was left without a home or a teacher. He decided that he would travel out into the world and find the different magics of the world. He would seek out other teachers and styles of magic, doing everything he can to take in all he could. While nothing compared to the arcane skills of his teacher, Nicolas still learned a great deal from around the world. He found it hard to maintain all the knowledge he was learning so he worked to enhance his cloak to better channel the different magics of the world.
As time went on and the world changed, Nicolas found himself without a purpose. He had indeed learned a great deal, but there was only so much he could learn, and the pursuit of magic was losing its luster. He continued to wander until the early 1400s when he came to Spain. There, he signed on to become a ship hand. He figured he could use some adventure in his life. During his time as a sailor he would eventually come to the Americas. He spent a great deal of time with the natives of the land, learning their magic, though like before…he found it boring. He would continue to stay though, finding simple pleasures in life as he went from place to place in the Americas.
Eventually, he made his way back to Europe in the 1800s. It was there that he got involved with an underground society of mages who worked to protect the world from magical threats. He worked with them for a time before quitting and searching out something new. His travels would eventually end up him in another organization which worked to stop another magical threat that was dawning. During the duration of World War 1 he spent his time fighting along side his group against both sides of the war, ensuring they didn’t dabble in darker arts to destroy each other.
After the war Nicolas returned to London where he began his own detective agency. He went to toe to toe with a local serial killer who was using a strange unknown magic to murder innocents. Eventually, after six months of tracking the killer Nicolas bested them and ridded the world of a dangerous criminal. However, on the body of the killer Nicolas found a strange device, a pocket watch, but one which was exhuming a great presence, something foreboding.
Nicolas would spend a few years studying the relic, taking it across the world to try and find its origins. None would come quickly and soon the trail would go cold. That was until he met a woman, a trader of sorts. She told him that the answers he sought would be in the Americas and that he should search out the other pieces. Once all the pieces were together he would have his answers. Further, she told him that he would have to stop the strange one or else a great evil would descend the world.
Skeptical at first, he did eventually come to America and start up a new detective agency. With the birth of empowered in the world jobs came a bit scarce, but he managed. To this day Nicolas runs his agency, happy to help any in need of his services. Of course, he keeps his eyes open for any lead for his pocket watch, but all he has managed to do was follow things to other dead ends.
There are secrets in this world and he plans to find answers.
