Machina Armor: The design of machina armor is made to encompass the entire body in protective, functional powered armor. The fuel source has evolved over the millenia but the current most efficient source is a crystalline substance known as Lyre. It’s typically found on worlds distant from a Solar lord or asteroids. The crystal itself has some algae like features growing when exposed to heat, light and moisture. Machina armor is widespread and popular used by all members of society in every civilized nation for various things. Some are used for warfare, some for industry and some for your average civilian for amusement. Though there is typically strict regulation around the use of these machines there are always problems. Pirates, gangsters and other less than reputable factions use armor as well when raiding ship lanes. Machina operators as they are called undergo training in order to properly use their armor, there is a lot of mental training as the neural interface takes instructions from the mind. To put it simply some of the functions of a machina are not purely physical like firing a shoulder mounted weapon or operating propulsion. Your mind must engage these functions relaying the information to the onboard AI.
There are those who regard machina as holy relics honoring them in temples and such, as they are descended from the Solar lords themselves this is reasonable. The Solar lords rarely engage now in the making of armor as the old feuds have died off or at least diminished and the days of the ether wave are over. Long drawn out and grand wars are a thing of the past and making weaponry is a fast way to ignite that old doom. While there are still wars and machina armor used in them they never amount to anything catastrophic.
Types: The way Machina are named consists of their production. A medium weight civilian machina would be presented as MWCC-092396 [C] Wave breaker. "MWCC"=Medium weight civilian class. "-092396"= Model ID number. "[C]"=Custom build (factory build=[F], Military build=[M]). "Wave breaker"=name
(Military): Military type Machina are usually more heavily armored, armed and with a superior targeting system to other types. They tend to be lacking in the modern comforts and upgrades of other types. These come in all weight classes
(Industrial): Industrial types cover jobs such as construction, repair work on large vehicles or structures, mining operations, submerged repair work and construction and environmental decontamination. Industrial machina tend to be bulky and only come in heavy and tower class, most are very well insulated against chemical, electrical and biological elements.
(Commercial): Commercial types are those involved in shipping and sports entertainment mostly. There are also those used in the entertainment industry. These have much less bulk to them and less armor, but their internal systems are state of the art as various companies can afford. A very popular sport the Cin-C’balia machina is a planet long obstacle course/marathon where corporations and sports stars put their commercial machina to the test. These come in all weight classes.
(Civilian): Civilian models are relatively harmless featuring excellent security systems and decent armor. They’re made for children as well to do simple things like fly around, go under water or sand or have mock fights at designated youth machina operator arenas. There are some made for orbital ventures as well as things like mountain climbing or descending into caves. Civilian classes do not exceed heavy class
(Law enforcement): The machina most Law enforcement use are heavily armored but feature mostly non lethal weaponry and deterrents. Of course, the military deals with the pirate element as the police models (Used in the Empire and the Tyge) could not hope to contend with fully armed pirates. Police types come in Vecar to heavy classes
(Religious): Religious machina are rarely function in any respect relying on outdated technology that could not hope to contend with modern machina. Though in terms of aesthetics they are typically the most beautiful and elegantly designed by whatever order they are from. They often come adorned in jewels and rich cloth with decorative weaponry. These are only ever displayed or worn by holy folk or their guards, these come in every weight class but tower.
(Relic): Relics are a rare and powerful kind of machina made by the Celestial Gods ages ago during darker times full of war. Most Relic machina are buried or lost by some means, a few still are known about and used like the one used by the monarch of the Red crown. The technology used in these is not of the mortal realm but arcane and fueled by arcane means, not only is there no known way to replicate this technology but doing so is a form of blasphemy. Blasphemy despite the Crowns lax attitude towards the Order of Rhin steel they will actively persecute any who engage in this act. Relics come in Light, medium and heavy class.
Weight class
Vecar: Vecars are barely machina armor, they just about cover the body in armor and have very few armaments and features. Only few are capable of combat in space and they cant take much punishment before succumbing. The one good quality is the maneuverability and cheap price of these things.
Light: Light class machina have a great advantage in mobility, speed and agility. The AI involved with these types though not as basic as Vecars is still more simplistic and geared towards a specific function. For instance, a commercial type light class for sports might have an AI designed to more quickly analyse terrain effects. A light military type might have an AI that assists with melee weaponry targeting vectors faster
Medium: Medium class machina carry that stereotypical balance in all statistics, they tend to make up the bulk of machina purchases across all empires. A highly competent AI and strong build make medium class a safe choice especially for rookies.
Heavy: Heavy types are workhorses and require a physique in it’s prime to operate. While it’s true the neural interface and AI assist with movement… They only assist in reducing weight and resistance while moving. Even when one is in the form needed to operate these beasts the movement tends to be slower than other types, of course there is a trade off. The pure kinetic force one can generate with these machina is immense and dwarfs other smaller weight classes. Also due to the bulky size the onboard computer and AI can be much more advanced. Some of the best military snipers prefer this weight class due to the ability to carry a heavy sniper rifle and the best optical zoom and stabilization.
Tower: Tower class are not considered machina by many but a kind of tank. Towers are either completely AI operated or piloted by two people. Their enormous size makes them rare to see and only come in a very few types. The military uses them of course as does industry and commercial.
Weaponry types/tools (These are only the most generic weapon descriptions, most weapons have an energy based version using either Ion energy, rail gun tech, laser generation, plasma or flame in some way. There are also a variety of civilian tools available for use with machina armor for various jobs in all sectors.)
