“It’s all about the message.” Eli smiled, leaning against his chair as he looked at his close companion, Clockwork.
She nodded, though she didn’t seem fully convinced. “So, the job isn’t to get the data?”
“No no, that is the job. But the message is what’s important about this.” He spun in his chair until he was facing the window. He stood up and spread his arms out. “Of course, you won’t be alone. You should focus on your own safety, but…so long as the message is sent then it won’t be a failed job.”
“So, the info is just a red herring?”
“No, as I said, we were hired to get the info. We could also hack it, but we can still use this for our own goals.”
“I understand, sir. But this seems a bit risky.”
“Which is why I am leaving it to you. I know you can do it. Plus you’ll have Polaroid there for an escape. Are there any others in the team you want? You’ll have about three other of the expendables villains, but would you feel better with someone else?”
“I would like Blight, sir.”
“Really? Well, if you have a plan in mind by all means.”
“I understand, thank you. Who else is with me for this?”
“Let’s see…” Eli moved over to his desk drawer and pulled out a few files, “you’ll be with Finger Gun, he can fire bullets, varying in calibers of strength, from his fingers, the Hangman, he can produce rope from his body, and
finally Sludge, he’s that guy who can shoot that slime from his mouth. It’s sticky and can pack a punch if he bunches it up. They’re all relatively useless, but they’ll follow your instructions.”
She nodded and took the files. “Got it. I will be sure to get the info.”
“And send the message?”
“And send the message.”
“Wonderful. Thank you so much, Clockwork! I knew I could count on you.”
She nodded, got up, and left the room.
It was quite the task she had at hand. An assault on a DEW building. That would be far from easy, and with limited resources, but…it was all for Eli and for his message to be spread. There was the job, some simple information on a new system they were working on, but that was second hat compared to what really was important here. It would be a rough job indeed, she would have to think of a plan by tonight and then go in tomorrow.
She let out a sigh. “This is honestly too much, Eli…” She shook her head and the continued on her way. She made it to her home before a plan finally came to her. And then she slept.
Early, on the next morn, she was sitting in a black van around the back of the DEW building. There they found a maintenance entrance. There was a quick debriefing of the plan. Polaroid would be disguised as a maintenance staff so not to be caught in the fray. The three disposable villains would cover the ground floor and hold a hostage situation. Blight would cover the second and third floors, blocking the exits. And then, finally, Clockwork would get ready to steal the information they needed and then…then the message.
That was the plan.
The three villains, Finger Gun, Sludge, and the Hangman all made their way to the front of the building, quickly disposing of the guards they found along the way and tying up any remaining staff. They continued until finally they were at the front, the staff there surprised by the loud entrance they made.
Finger Gun raised his hand in the air and fired off three bolts into the ceiling. “Alright everyone!” He called out in a loud tone, easily piercing the silence that followed the bullets, “Get on the ground! We’re taking control of the scene now.” He smiled confidently, looking over the crowd as they did and the two others with him went work taking care of binding them down.
Upstairs Blight was waiting in the side stairwell, waiting for the right time to strike while Clockwork slowly made her way further up the stairs, heading for one of the upper floors.
