Sam woke up with a start.
Instead of hopping out of bed, as he usually did, he used a portal and dropped himself right in front of his dresser. He quickly put on his usual outfit, to which he had several pairs of. After taking care of the rest of his morning business he was out the door and running down the hallway. He checked his watch as we went, making sure he still was on time.
There was plenty of time left. Ample time.
When Octavia told him that there were a few younger heroes looking to train under some of the more senior and experienced heroes he delighted to know that he was her third choice in taking on a student. Third! Choice! There were only three heroes working with her at this time, but she still considered him dependable! He was in the top five and that’s all that mattered! He didn’t care much for thinking on the details of that. He was just happy to be chosen.
The other heroes were busy with their own projects or didn’t want to deal with teaching a student, and sadly, at least to her, Octavia couldn’t force them to take on a student. So the job fell to Sam until another could. The teaching of younger heroes wouldn’t be a prolonged activity either, not unless they wanted it to be. Rather, this would just be a test run, spend some time, pass on wisdom, that kind of thing.
The hero he would be training and looking after today was someone by the name of Deluge, or at least that was their hero name. He honestly forgot their real name, but from the sounds of it they had a very interesting power. It didn’t quite correlate to Sam’s ability, but regardless he’d teach him the basics and go on patrol with him. If they were lucky there would be some sort of crime they could stop. There was always crime going on in the city, and while that was sucky it would at least prove to be a good training example. He would have to keep his eyes and ears open for anything.
He had to bring his A game.
He brought his A game all the way to the front of the workshop, a place known as the Lion’s Rest and patiently waited for the young hero to arrive as planned. He was two hours early, but he wanted to make a good impression. Octavia, who he had passed on his way, was still getting ready and actually quite shocked to see him being so diligent. She did praise him, but there seemed to be a... hesitance? Or maybe it just the shock, it was hard to tell with her. She did have moments in which she acted weird. People could be so hard to read. After her he ran into another one of his teammates. She was a good friend and a better hero. She always fit the role so well. He asked her advice on his current assignment with the new hero and she had a very interesting suggestion, something crazy enough that it might just work.
Regardless, he paced the floor in front of the door, quietly thinking and planning out the day. It would start easy, go around the normal route and then take Deluge to something with a bit more flare.
It was going to be a good day for sure.
