It wasn’t expected, though it was not unheard of for intelligent life to come crashing down to Earth. In this case, it had been a strange device, though crashing wouldn’t be the right word for it. It landed, but not intentionally. Whether it was from a computing error or from a necessity that was unknown. All that was truly known was that it was there and it needed to be investigated. Though, the main problem with that was…no one really knew about it. Not really. There were no flashing lights in the sky or any form of signals or signs that could be picked up by a device. However, what was sent out was a pulse sent out over a small area directed at a specific type of person.
Someone not from this planet, just like itself. It would resonate gently in their mind and lead them to itself.
Ah! And what was that? Well, it’s hard to say. It was a beacon of sorts. A long cylindrical object, only slightly smaller than a pine tree and about as wide as a garage door laid flat. It stood on four legs, like a lander would, the kind that would touch down on the moon, which in turn left a gap that could be walked under. On the backside of it a long mechanical arm-like device stuck out, from which a circular device hung. It glowed with a strange purple light and periodically would send out a small ray of light, looking as though it was scanning the area. The top of the device held a satellite looking device and that was what seemed to let out the pulse which alerted any not from this world of its presence.
It would’ve landed in New York State, a few towns from the city and nestled deep in a wooded area. It would touched down miles from the homes of the people of the small town, though it seemed as though all life would avoid it. No birds sang in the air around, the deer, ever cautious creatures they are, kept their further distance, and even the bug seemed to buzz off for once.
However, on the second night of its presence a young man would enter the woods, drawn by its call. A boy and the alien he bonded with so long ago. Sirius now stood at the edge of the clearing of the device, carefully watching it from the bushes. For whatever reason he was hesitant to approach it. The signal it gave, while gentle, did make him uneasy. He wasn’t sure how the presence came to enter his mind and he didn’t quite like that. The energy Sirius could put around himself was good at blocking signals like that, yet this one managed to make it through. That was far from good…
“Oz…we need to go and check it out.” Sirius growled in his head head.
“I know…”
“I’m worried too, but we need to investigate it.”
“Promise we’ll be alright?”
“If I did that would take the fun out of it.”
“Ha. Fair point. Alright…”
“You ready?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, then take the first step.”
And slowly, but having some new found confidence, Sirius stepped out from the bushes and towards the beacon.
