The twelfth floor, the twelfth hour, and Tom’s twelfth coffee. Well, the twelfth coffee was an exaggeration, but it felt like the twelfth. He had been informed that he would be stuck doing some last paperwork for his boss. He wasn’t informed that this paperwork would take him an extra four hours and that’d he’d be pulling overtime. It wasn’t easy being one of the head financiers of a major arms company, but it paid the bills. While Tom didn’t have a wife or any close family nearby he did have a nice house and an affectionate cat.
“Damn…Hiro is probably waiting to be fed…” He let out a sigh, defeated. He took a long look out the window and at the sky. The city had no starry night to greet him, only a large black, slightly clouded sky. The moon wasn’t particularly bright so he could better see the lights of the aircraft flying above. There was one light that did catch his eye though. It was particularly bright. It was green-no, blue? No…it was red? It was shifting colors, at least for the moment. Tom stood up from his chair and walked over to the window, trying to get a better glance at it. By the time he had reached the window the bright object was now a glowing orange.
And it was getting brighter. The light was going in size and it took Tom a minute to realize…but it was getting closer to. It was heading straight for him, straight for this floor. He let out a heavy breath, frozen with fear as the object came hurtling towards the twelfth floor of the office building. He only had moments when he finally began to move. He got a few steps before taking a massive leap forward. The entire building shook as the object collided. Tom was on the ground and as he looked behind him he saw it poking through the ceiling. It must’ve landed on the floor above. The entire area around there had been blown away and broken, some of it caught fire. Surprisingly enough, though, it hadn’t been the explosive impact that he expected.
Further, to his relief, besides a few burns and minor cuts from the debris that went flying, he was fine. There was no major damage to him. Slowly, he stood back up and looked at the large mass. It was a rock of some sort, craters here and there within it. He could hear it sizzle with heat. He could also hear the incoming sirens, no doubt the police and fire department would be on their way. He took another step closer to the stone, trying to determine exactly what it was.
As he took the step, however, a massive crack appeared in the stone. The entire stone began to open up, bits of it crumbling down to the ground, a small trail of steam rising from each crumble. Then finally, emerging from the crack Tom saw it. A figure, almost human in size and shape covered head to toe in a robe. However, this figure had six arms altogether and they wore a strange looking mask made from sort of gray metal. It looked almost Aztec or some sort of Native American in its design. The figure stood motionless for a few moments before finally turning its head with a loud crack towards Tom.
That was all the incentive that Tom needed to book it out of there. He missed the robed figure lift up one of its six hands and extend it outward. A small circle appeared around it and slowly hovered away from him. It then expanded, shimmered, and opened a gateway to some faraway place. From this gateway emerged several small robotic creatures. There were small orbs which walked around on four spiderlike limbs, a few smaller humanoid-like creatures which had some form of Gatling gun instead of arms and rolled around on a belt, and a few canine-like robots with razor teeth and glowing red eyes. Following these robots two more robots came out, both slender, almost feminine in design. They were wearing a similar robe to the first who had emerged and each carried a pair of sharp blades.
In a very organized manor, these robots began to move about the building. Securing a position. When the police finally arrived…fighting ensued.
An hour later…
Sam had received the call to action. They had wanted Rabbit Punch, but she was out of the country on a personal request for her help in dealing with a large dinosaur type thing that had escaped. He would take her place in dealing with this threat. He was on the scene within a few minutes. They had also called a few more empowered people, but they were still on their way. A few others may be in the area, but none had reported to the chief just yet.
Sam gave the chief a quick salute and went over to the van which they were operating from. He gave a quick glance around the area, “So, chief, what’s the plan? What’s going on here?”
