The City of Defiance
Defiance, the world's last sanctuary for creatures considered “monstrous”. Founded in 1253 in Lincoln County Nebraska, by the oldest and wisest members of each type of monster. This monolithic structure is host to over 500 levels and an extremely deep sea, each level filled with weirdest and wildest creatures from your nightmares and the sea being filled with fish, and every type of merfolk and water beast you can think of. The city runs off of gold, silver, and other treasures for currency; but will also accept the barter system. The city does not allow the use of motor vehicles or modern electronics. All the electronic systems are run on hardened mana crystals. The sky above the city changes with the time of day, allowing denizens of the city to track time without the need to use clocks or cell phones.
The Surface of Defiance
The Surface of Defiance is staged to look like a small town. This, is of course, a stage for the governments officially unofficial witch/monster hunting group, known as H.A.M.M. Humans Against Monsters & Magic. This is referred to as “Level 0” by the denizens of both the town, and the city beneath. Despite its innocent appearance, this is a fully functioning military base used to train new agents, and protect the world from the monsters beneath.
The Council of Defiance
As stated before, the council is setup of the most powerful monster from each community. While each member certainly has sway in their district, there are two that immediately come to mind when thinking of members that hold sway over every district. Whether due to kindness, or cruelty.
Akoris Hoqor, the Mummy Lord
Killian Phelan, the Lycan
Killian Phelan is known for being kind to the denizens of Defiance. He rules the forests of the Lycan with a firm, but calm hand. Killian is known to always be fair, while still striking fear into the hearts of every criminal aspect of the city.
Akoris Hoqor is the exact opposite in every way. Whereas Killian is kind and rules just and fair, Akoris rules with an iron fist. The Mummy Lord forced his citizens to build the ultimate symbol of his power. A gigantic pyramid so large; that it blocks out the artificial sun in the undead quarter. There are even rumors that Akoris has any citizen that speaks out against him imprisoned and put in mines to collect mana crystals and gold for him, though these are just rumors, yes?
The Everyday of Defiance
Everyday life inside of Defiance is generally dictated by which level you inhabit, and while I do not have the time nor ability to go through every level; for the most part, citizens of Defiance are expected to work as a productive member of society. Vampires are shrouded in darkness and run “flesh stock” farms. These farms are filled with human-like beings called flesh stock, they are unintelligent and completely defenseless. For all intents and purposes, they are barely alive. Flesh stock are hunted by vampires, since they produce blood extremely similar to that of humans. Those that are capable of movement are also set free to be hunted by newly turned, or children.
Every member of Defiance is expected to stay within the city walls as per the agreement with H.A.M. however, of course, members of the city have their own escape routes in case of emergency of some sort, or perhaps their own amusement. Should a citizen be seen outside the walls, the CAFC will be contacted by any human who spots them, from there; they will be redirected to H.A.M. who will hunt them down along with a member of the council. Visitors to the city either arrive through the elevator on level 0, or one of the secret entrances. Trade with the city is achieved through through the secret entrances.
